Ahem.
I also want to say that I actually, for the first time in my life, participated in the Karaoke Ring of DEATH!
DUN DUN DUN. *Hear a woman shrilling in the background*
Okay, guys, don't worry. That woman shrilling in the background is only doing it because she's so excited to hear me. Oh, nevermind, turns out my sister did stub her toe.
And, no one died, as far as I'm concerned, in the making of their Karaoke Ring of DEATH video. And, if they did, you didn't hear it from me.
Anyways, the theme for this month was to karaoke to a song that's a cover song. If we shouldn't judge a book by its cover should we judge a song by its cover? Hmm, I don't know, you'll have to be the judge of that.
If you just can't wait any longer to hear my horrendous karaoke voice, and you're starting to hyperventilate out of excitement, don't worry, calm down. You can view my video over at Jes's blog, Jes Getting Started...but I'm worried that my singing might make you hyperventilate even more...and for all the wrong reasons.
For those who didn't dare listen to my video, well, good. Because right here, we have a girl karaoking with a much nicer voice than mine.
Hey, I'm Kanriah from over at One Red Wall. Just as I do every month, I feel I should apologize for my video. Apparently I'm a little... slow cause I couldn't remember that a song that is covered by someone else is called a Cover Song. And a million other things that I am not going to go on about. I'm just special and way too worried about my impression for someone who doesn't usually bother to brush my hair. Though Hey! I totally did this time. So what if it was hours before, I still brushed my hair. I even put on some eye makeup and lip gloss (that was long gone). But I did it. Just for you. You're welcome.
So here I am singing Hurt. I'm doing the Johnny Cash version cause he's fabulous, but this was originally a Nine Inch Nails song. Be sure to check out all the rest of the videos too! Knowing this group of people I'm sure they're all magnificent.

Oh, and if you'd like to listen to other karaokers go at it for the imaginary throne, check out the master list. Oh, and if you'd ever like to participate in this karaokefunnish, here's the person you contact. Oh, and if you'd ever like to give me roses, a standing ovation, or just to blow me kisses, you can do that here.
The Help was a really good book! Not overly serious but an important topic!

I had never heard of the karaoke ring of death.... does the worst singer get beaten to death or something? Whats the danger element to it?
ReplyDeleteI've only done Karaoke once and I was incredibly drunk. All evidence has been destroyed though and since it was before the internet, nobody will ever see or hear it. Whew!
ReplyDeleteAnyway yours and Kanriah's videos were awesome.
I think it's called Ring of Death because we're pretty much killing our self-image in the hopes of somehow entertaining those in the Blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteOr, you know, someone's probably been stabbed in the making of their video, too.
I LOVED THE HELP!
ReplyDeleteYes, I just screamed that. Great book!
I've been trying to decide about reading The Help. I think I will off of your recommendation. :)
ReplyDeleteI liked the book despite all the controversy surrounding it. Think what you will, the woman can write a fast moving yarn.
ReplyDeleteI've always been confused by the book cover too. A friend of mine who used to make book cover decisions explained it to me thus: The book cover is supposed to capture the mood of the work.
I always see two birds shunning another one.
so how was the book?
ReplyDeleteOh Kan, you are gorgeous, have a beautiful voice, and I love your face off. <3
ReplyDeleteThe movie actually looks pretty good. My be a heartwarming film.
ReplyDeleteI loved the help and agree with you about the cover. I went to see a preview of the movie on Wednesday. Loved the characters all over again.

I read The Help, then pondered the cover. The only connection I can make is that expression, "A little birdie told me." Because it's supposed to be anonymous, you know.
ReplyDeleteYay Kanny! I cheated and watched this on youtube before and posted a comment there but I love this song!
ReplyDeleteLovely ladies with lovely voices. I love the Hurt song, but Shannon, you absolutely rock with your song. Enjoyed it much!
ReplyDeleteJust finished watching you sing "Angel" and I thought you were FABULOUS. Great hair, great voice. If only I had the same courage.
ReplyDeleteYou look too happy and upbeat to be singing such a depressing song! I agree with the others. You have a lovely voice, though. And you rock!
ReplyDeleteReally cool song choice, Kanriah. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable. I just viewed your performance. Thanks for the other fun stuff -- book review, etc. -- in this post. Girlfriend, you're approaching 1000. You are amazing.

New follower stopping by... I absolutely loved The Help. Have you seen the newest release of the book with the characters from the movie on the cover?
ReplyDeleteKristin @ http://kristincanread.blogspot.com
I keep seeing The Help in stores. I've debated about reading it. I'm so glad I found your blog. I'm a new follower.
ReplyDeleteThanks,

Kanriah, I think you have a really good voice. And, I hate looking directly into the camera, too. It's sooo...awkward...as if this whole karaoke thing isn't...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great voice, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTakes a lot of courage to sing and put it up on youtube! Especially with trolls lurking around every corner.
ReplyDeleteI just may have to cave and read the book! You're right, it does look boring. Brave, you, to sing! You're great!
ReplyDeleteI don't read many books, but when the movie comes out I will complain like everyone else and say it was not as good as the book.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the videos on your funny video page and haven't laughed that hard or a long time.
I will, occasionally, judge a book if its cover depicts a bare-chested pirate with Fabio locks flowing in the wind.
ReplyDeleteRing of death makes it sound like snuff karaoke. I sure wish I could sing worth beans. I supersuck.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read this!
ReplyDeleteI love books that leave you feeling that way!
Your Jamaican Rap stylings just brightened up my day.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Terrific!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Great review!
Thanks for commenting on my recent post. I totally agree - taking a kid to a haunted house or a loud rock concert is way over the top. Or letting kids watch horror movies. Sometimes I just shake my head in wonder!
ReplyDeleteOhhh - I remember doing karaoke. It was fun. :) You have a very nice voice! I'd love to hear you sing a song that you could really sing out to. I love that song, btw, one of my Cash faves!!!
for me it was reminiscent of Michael Scott singing alternate lyrics over the actual versions of the song. for example singing the "ethical" lyrics over the song "physical".
ReplyDeletethis was not intended as an insult.
Your post is really thought provoking. You are doing a fine job.Keep it up.

This pulling the post after hitting publish... I dunno... you're such a tease!
ReplyDeleteI'll be tagging you with a lovely blog meme award thing tonight... no worries if you aren't into it or up for it :)
I am very interested in hearing you sing! I will have to bookmark this one. My oldest son is sick & sleeping right between us. I will make sure to watch it soon. I'm already impressed!
ReplyDeleteYou're not kiddin' "Don't judge a book by its cover"! Looks like a great story.
ReplyDeleteMy karaoke story: While in the Dominican Republic, several of us participated in a rendition of "Don't Stop Believing" off to the side while some other guy was trying to warble his way through it up on stage. We killed. Or at least we thought we did because...yes...
we were drinking.
Karaoke ring of death? What's that? I thought karaoke was the most peaceful sport on the planet, so how did death get into the mix?
ReplyDeleteAs for judging a book by its cover, I have to admit I refuse to read a book with an unappealing cover... It's like you inviting me to dinner and it tastes great but it looks like, well, you know what I mean.
